One of Safe Streets / Strong Communities' chief goals is to help people realize the power of the community.
As such, we have regular bi-weekly membership and leadership meetings where we discuss, strategize and plan for change. Our membership base is comprised of those in the community who are most impacted by police misconduct and judicial inequities.
Most of Safe Streets' members have suffered personal losses at the hands of these institutions and gather to share their stories, support one another in times of need, and to discuss best courses of action for changes in law and policy. Since our beginnings, Safe Streets' has been an action group that also doubles as a support group - bringing victims of New Orleans flawed criminal justice system together to organize and fight back against injustice.
