Indigent Defense Reform     Current Events

We seek to reform the New Orleans Criminal Justice System to:

  • Ensure that the indigent defender system is politically independent and is adequately and equitably funded so all clients receive an effective lawyer.
  • Ensure that the courts are fair, efficient and effective and respect the human dignity of victims, defendants and their families.
  • Ensure that the indigent defender system operates as a model defender system, based on best practices and the American Bar Association’s Ten Principles of a Public Defense Delivery System.
  • Ensure that the courts are fair, efficient, and effective.
  • Ensure that the court system prioritizes and supports alternatives to incarceration.

Our Vision

We envision a world where ALL communities are safe & strong; a world where...
  • public resources are not squandered on prisons and instruments of social control but instead are invested in children and families in the form of sound affordable housing and in quality education for every child to the highest level that each wishes to attain.

  • all people have equal opportunity to participate in the economy in a meaningful way and to share in the nation's wealth.
